Summer 2

Mr Gumpy's outing  . . . goes wrong!

Poor Mr Gumpy isn’t having much luck! He’s having trouble getting around since his boat has sunk. All the animals want to have a day out but without a boat they are going nowhere.

This term year 1 are going to design and make a stronger boat for Mr Gumpy and his animal friends. In science we will be testing out materials to use to make Mr Gumpy’s boat. In our design and technology lessons we will be designing, using tools, making and evaluating our new boat and will be carrying out tests to find out which materials are the best. We will be writing newspaper reports to tell you all about the dramatic events and will be ready to report on the launch of the new boat!

Summer 1

Paddington Bear - Adventure of the UK

Year one are helping the famous Paddington Bear this term on his adventure of the UK. Paddington Bear seems to get lost quite easily so it’s a good job Year 1 are learning to be excellent map readers, ready to help him on his journey.

Paddington Bear will be visiting us in a few weeks’ time for a tour of Pershore

but what will happen if he runs out of marmalade sandwiches? I’m sure Year 1 will be ready with some solutions!

Firstly we need to help him pack and make sure he doesn’t miss his train, it’s a good job we are going to be excellent at telling the time. First stop London

Spring 2 -  Claude Monet

I wonder what it would be like to be a famous Artist.

Year 1 will be following in the footsteps of the artist Monet to find out what inspired his creativity. This term we are becoming poets, artists and performers, developing our own creative skill sets. We will be developing skills in writing our own poems and using them to compose our own songs and music. We will also be painting pictures of our favourite places and finding out in science all about the flowers in Monet’s garden.

We will be sharing our creative master pieces with you when we welcome you at the end of term into our school gallery.

Spring 1

Castles

I wonder what it would be like to live in a castle?

Year 1 have been given an exciting task to write an article on what it would have been like to live in a Medieval Castle for the famous ‘Horrible History’ books. Over the next few weeks we will be putting ourselves in the shoes of a Knight to find out! This will help us become experts at writing about what life was like as well as developing our artistic skills as we make our own castles. We have lots of investigating to do, so we must get started straight away!

Autumn 2

Oh my goodness…what a mess there are crumbs all over the place!

Hang on a minute someone has been in our classroom.

Can the children use the clues to help them find out who has caused this chaos?
Over the next few weeks we will use the traditional tale of The Gingerbread Man as our topic focus.

The story will help us to become story writing experts as well as teach us lots of scientific, artistic and historical skills.

Autumn 1

We had an excellent time learning all about fantastic food last half term.
We experienced the aromas, flavours and textures of a variety

of different foods and learnt why these foods are important.

We completed an exciting enterprise project;

designing our own healthy snacks and planning and putting on a very successful super snack sale to

encourage healthy eating at Cherry Orchard.

During this topic we listened to and learnt to recite some simple poetry.

We used our writing skills to write some excellent instructions.

We used our maths skills to practise counting, adding and taking away.
Alongside this we explored the artwork of Cezanne and Acrimboldo.
We had plenty of opportunities to make and bake lots of healthy snacks, which we loved tasting!
