Our Routine...

Autumn 2

In Reception we are extremely busy bees! We start by putting our things in all the right places; we can all find our own names and we look after our own things. When we have put everything away we get busy choosing where we would like to learn. After the register we work with Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry for phonics.

We will use this time to learn to read and write new sounds and words.

After this we have carpet time where we learn something new for our topic. Miss Robinson introduces our jobs for the day and explains to us all the learning opportunities that are available both inside and outside our classroom. We then choose where we would like to learn ourselves. Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry set us special challenges to make our brains work really hard. They ask us lots of questions to make sure that we are learning all the time. They also work with small groups of children at a time to do different activities. We join the rest of the school for assembly on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We can choose when we would like to have snack. We know that we have to wash our hands before eating and that we have to sit at the snack table to eat our snack. We put our photographs into the box so that they grown ups know that we have had snack.  Just before lunch we have guided reading.  We will use the time to share a story, talk about the different characters, where the story takes place, guess what will happen and decide what parts are our favourite.  We will learn how to point to the words when reading and how to use the pictures to help us read.

After lunch we have maths; we work as whole class first to learn a new maths skill or practice one we already know to get even better. Then we work in groups on different maths challenges. Some of us work with Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry and some of us work independently. We have a different group challenge every day. After maths we get busy choosing where we want to learn again. We keep a record of all of our hard work in our learning journals. No wonder we are all tired by the end of the day!

Important information...

Reception need to bring their book bags to school everyday. We can choose a book and/or a maths game from the library to take home on a Tuesday morning from 8:40am or any afternoon from 3:00pm. We are allowed to choose up to three books/games to borrow. Reception will begin to bring home at least one guided reading book each week, these will be stories that we can read all by ourselves. The guided reading books have a Cherry Orchard sticker on the front cover, please leave these in our book bags even if they are finished with. Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor or Miss Perry will send you a message to explain what we have been practicing at school.

On a Tuesday morning half of Reception class have P.E. with our sports coach. On a Thursday afternoon the other half of Reception Class will have P.E. with our sports coach. It would be useful to keep P.E. kits in school all the time though, just in case.

On a Friday morning Reception Class go to Forest School with Miss Dodd. Forest School is fantastic fun in all weather, we need to wear old clothes to school to keep us warm and bring wellies with us because we love to get muddy! Please bring school uniform to school so that we can get changed after.

The first Friday of each month is celebration assembly where all of the children's achievements outside of school are celebrated, you are more than welcome to join us in assembly. If your children has a certificate that they wish to share in celebration assembly please bring it into school and give it to a member of the Reception team.

In order to keep you up to date with all our wonderful learning and let you know if there is anything that we need to practise at home Miss Robinson will send you messages using the app 'marvellous me'. This app is free to download to smart phones, or can be access using a computer. Miss Robinson will give everyone a unique joining code in the first week. Please make sure that you download and join the app using your phone or computer as this is Miss Robinson's primary source of contact with you. If you don't have access to a smart phone or computer with connection to the internet please con't panic, just let Miss Robinson or a member of the Reception team know.
