Welcome to Year 1!
Our Class Teacher in Year 1 is Miss Marrs and our Teaching Assistants are Miss Yoxall and Miss Perry. They can be found helping us every day in Year 1 and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Our PE slots are on a Thursday and Friday morning this half term. Please can we remind you that full PE kits with suitable footwear should always be in school and can be kept safe on the children’s pegs. Please ensure that all school uniform and P.E kits are clearly labelled.
In Year 1 we are encouraging the children to become more independent in all areas, this means that they are expected to independently change themselves for PE where possible – please support this at home by encouraging them to dress themselves and use their own initiative.
All children need to bring a named water bottle to school each day please.
As we go into the colder months of the year, please can you ensure your child is provided with a warm winter coat so that we can still enjoy our playtimes out on the playground whatever the weather!
Year 1 will need to be bringing their book bags to school every day in order to collect any letters, take home reading books and keep their belongings safe.
5 minute walk:
The 5 minute walk is a whole school initiative that we will be taking part in this year. It is a great opportunity for us to get active, improve our fitness and most of all have some fun in between our learning. The children will be given the opportunity to change their footwear if they wish, so please ensure your child has trainers or pumps in order to do this.
Peggy The Penguin:
Peggy The Penguin is Year 1’s very special class mascot, she will be coming home with one child per week. Peggy will arrive with a diary – in this diary it is expected that the children will draw pictures, write sentences or stick in photographs of their time with Peggy. Peggy will be coming home on Fridays and is expected to return to school with your child on Monday morning ready to tell the class what adventures she has had over the weekend!
I will be sure to update this page throughout the year with any key pieces of information for you and your child. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ask myself, Miss Yoxall or Miss Perry, however, if you wish to discuss something that may take longer than a few minutes may I ask that you arrange a meeting with myself after school where we will be able to have a proper discussion. Thank you in advance for your continued support over this academic year.
