Our Routine...

Summer 2

This half term our routine will change slightly to help us with our transition into year one. We will still do all of the things that we usually do but just in a different order!

We will start our day as normal by putting our things in all the right places by ourselves before getting busy and choosing where we would like to learn. We will then take the register and have our maths lesson.

We will start our maths lesson by working as a whole class first to learn a new maths skill or practice one we already know to get even better. Then we work in groups on different maths challenges. Some of us work with Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry and some of us work independently. We have a different group challenge every day, please see the curriculum page to find out more information about what we are learning this half term.  When maths has finished we will join the rest of the school for assembly.

After assembly we will split into our phonics groups and work with either Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor, Miss Perry or Mrs Hadley. Please see the curriculum page to find out more about what we are learning in phonics this half term. When Phonics has finished we will have snack and milk.

We will finish our morning with guided reading. In this time we will work with either Miss Robinson or Mrs Taylor to share a story talk about the different characters, where the story takes place, guess what will happen and decide what parts are our favourite.  We will learn how to point to the words when reading and how to use the pictures to help us read. This half term we will be focusing on reading the words in the story by ourselves and remembering what happens in the story after we have finished reading. If it's not our turn to read with a grown up we will take part in our 'funky fingers' work out where we practice our fine motor skills and handwriting.

After lunch we will start our afternoon session with a whole class carpet time to support our topic work. Miss Robinson will teach us something new or we will practice a skill that we have already learnt to get even better at it before introducing our topic activities. After this we will choose where we would like to learn in both our inside and outside classroom. Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry set us special challenges in this time to make our brains work really hard and they ask us lots of questions to make sure that we are learning all the time. They also work with small groups of children at a time to do different activities.

We will continue to keep a record of all of our hard work in our learning journals. No wonder we are all tired by the end of the day!

Autumn 1- Summer 1

In Reception we are extremely busy bees! Everyday we start by self-registering; we have to find our own names and decide which bear we feel like. Then we put our things in all the right places; we can all find our own names and we look after our own things. When we have put everything away we get busy choosing where we would like to learn. After the register we work with Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor or Miss Perry  for guided reading. We will use the time to share a story, talk about the different characters, where the story takes place, guess what will happen and decide what parts are our favourite.  We will learn how to point to the words when reading and how to use the pictures to help us read. This half term we will be focusing on reading the words in the story by ourselves and remembering what happens in the story after we have finished reading. If it's not our turn to read with a grown up we will take part in our 'funky fingers' work out where we practise our fine motor skills and handwriting.

After this Miss Robinson introduces our jobs for the day and explains to us all the learning opportunities that are available both inside and outside our classroom. We then join the rest of the school for assembly on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. After assembly we have snack and milk and have a discussion with the grown ups and our friends. We then choose where we would like to learn ourselves. Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry set us special challenges to make our brains work really hard and they ask us lots of questions to make sure that we are learning all the time. They also work with small groups of children at a time to do different activities.

We have phonics in the morning too, please see the curriculum page for more information about what we are learning this half term. After lunch we have maths; we work as whole class first to learn a new maths skill or practice one we already know to get even better. Then we work in groups on different maths challenges. Some of us work with Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry and some of us work independently. We have a different group challenge every day, please see the curriculum page to find out more information about what we are learning this half term. After maths we get busy choosing where we want to learn again. We keep a record of all of our hard work in our learning journals. No wonder we are all tired by the end of the day!

Important information...

Reception need to bring their book bags to school everyday. We can choose a book from the library to take home on a Tuesday morning from 8:40am and Friday afternoon from 3:00pm. We are allowed to choose up to three books to borrow. Reception will begin to bring home at least one guided reading book each week, these will be stories that we can read all by ourselves. The guided reading books have a Cherry Orchard sticker on the front cover, please leave these in our book bags even if they are finished with. Miss Robinson, Mrs Taylor or Miss Perry will send you a message to explain what we have been practicing at school.

On a Tuesday and Friday morning Reception Class will have P.E. with Mr Hyde. It would be useful to keep P.E. kits in school all the time though, just in case.

On a Wednesday morning Reception will be having swimming lessons. The class swim in two groups. The first group meet and are registered at the swimming pool by Miss Robinson and Mr Hyde. The second group go to school as normal and are registered by Mrs Taylor and Miss Perry who will walk them to the pool for their swimming lesson. Please see the Reception outside door to find out which group your child is in. Miss Robinson will also send a 'marvellous me' message to let you know which group your child is in. If your child attends breakfast club and is in group one they will be collected by Miss Robinson and Mr Hyde who will walk with them to the pool in time for their lesson.

On a Thursday afternoon Reception Class  go to Forest School with Miss Dodd. Forest School is fantastic fun in all weather, so we need to remember to bring old clothes to keep us warm and wellies because we love to get muddy!

On a Friday morning you can join us in our classroom for breakfast and bingo from 8:40. It's a great relaxed time to have a chat with your child and their friends and find out all about what they have been getting up to at school. It is a perfect opportunity to catch up with the their learning journeys too. Don't forget to leave a comment at the front!

The last Friday of each month is celebration assembly where all of the children's achievements outside of school are celebrated. On these morning's there will be no breakfast and bingo but you are more than welcome to join us in assembly. If your children has a certificate that they wish to share in celebration assembly please bring it into school and give it to a member of the Reception team.
